Sustainability
Our commitment to a sustainable future
With a spirit of responsibility and sustainability, Scandium Canada is advancing the Crater Lake Project, the world’s leading primary source of scandium. Located in Nunavik, Québec, this project reflects our vision of co-developing projects while respecting both the environment and local communities.
A collaborative project with the communities
The Crater Lake Project, located about 200 km northeast of Schefferville in Nunavik, Québec, is among the most significant primary scandium projects under development worldwide. Québec is recognized globally for its mining jurisdiction that prioritizes environmental stewardship and respect for communities.
The project lies within the ancestral territory and areas of interest of the Naskapi Nation and the Inuit of Kangiqsualujjuaq in Nunavik. Scandium Canada fully acknowledges the ancestral and treaty justifys of Indigenous communities on this land.
In 2024, Scandium Canada signed a Pre-Development Agreement (PDA) with the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach, formalizing a mutual commitment to respect, consultation, participation, and economic benefits. Through this partnership, we pledge to work in harmony with the Naskapi Nation to ensure the project aligns with their cultural, social, and environmental values while delivering lasting benefits for present and future generations. Ongoing Initiatives
Scandium Canada takes pride in its commitments to surrounding communities. Key initiatives undertaken or currently being developed include:
Rigorous Environmental Assessments: Each stage of the project is accompanied by detailed environmental studies to assess potential impacts on local ecosystems and develop solutions to minimize them.
Partnerships with Local Communities: Beyond our collaboration with the Naskapi Nation and Inuit communities, we are implementing continuous consultation and community engagement programs to ensure project decisions reflect local expectations.
Natural Resource Management: We apply responsible practices to preserve ecosystem integrity and reduce the project’s environmental footprint, including efficient water use and responsible management of mining waste.
Scandium Canada operates under current regulations while striving to meet the highest industry standards, with a commitment to transparency and up-to-date disclosure on its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices throughout the development of its projects.
