Communities

Scandium Canada is a Canadian-based strategic metals company focused on the advancement of its Crater Lake Scandium property in Québec. We are proud to announce a pre-development agreement with the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach

Introduction to the Naskapi Nation
of Kawawachikamach

The Naskapi people have occupied the land of what is now northern Quebec and Labrador since time immemorial. Our ancestors were nomads, living off the land and following the caribou herds on which they depended for resources. In the 1950s, our way of life changed when most of the Naskapi people moved from Fort Chimo to the Schefferville region.

Necessary and Sustainable Relationships

Scandium Canada has taken a unique approach to environmental and social sustainability. Instead of simply focusing on minimizing the negative impacts of their operations, Scandium Canada has committed to supporting capacity building within a sustainable environmental framework. This means investing in programs and initiatives that build local communities' capacity to manage their natural resources in an environmentally sound and socially responsible way. One way Scandium Canada has implemented this approach is through partnerships with local universities and research institutions.

By working together, the company can support research and development projects focusing on sustainable resource management practices, such as ecosystem-based management and biodiversity conservation. This helps build

local capacity and generates valuable knowledge and information that can be used to inform the company’s environmental management plans. Scandium Canada has also implemented programs to support local communities' economic development by providing training and employment opportunities in the mining industry. These programs are designed to ensure that local communities benefit from the economic opportunities provided by the mining industry while also ensuring that the environmental and social impacts of the company's operations are minimized. By taking this unique environmental and social sustainability approach, Scandium Canada is setting an example for other mining companies to follow. Rather than simply focusing on minimizing negative impacts, the company is actively working to build the capacity of local communities to manage their natural resources in an environmentally sound and socially responsible way. This approach benefits local communities and helps ensure the long-term sustainability of the company's operations.
